The UK has proven reserves of oil amounted to 0.5 billion metric
tons, with an estimate of up to 1.6 billion metric tons which have
yet to be discovered, and may exist in areas of the UK continental
shelf. The UK now exports quantities of crude oil and is acknowledged
for expertise in the area of deep-water technology - using advanced
engineering techniques for extracting a higher proportion of oil
from each field.
The UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) is facing significant challenges
as the province matures. Recovering oil and gas from the North Sea
and the Atlantic Margin is a highly technical, complex, dangerous
and expensive task. |
