| Nigeria Oil Industry News |
The Nigerian Oil Industry is the mainstay of the country's economy,
producing over 90% of of all foreign exchange revenue. Crude reserve
estimates vary, but were estimated in 2005 to be about 35.3 billion
barrels. New discoveries continue to push these estimates up yearly.
Commercial discoveries made by oil majors such as Shell, Exxon-Mobil
and Texaco have also helped generate more interest in the region.
Most of Nigeria’s crude oil production, comprising 10 major
crude streams (including condensate), is light sweet crude, API grades
21-45, with a low sulphur content. Nigeria's marker crudes on the
International oil market are Bonny Light and Forcados.
