Egypt Oil Industry News

Egypt is a significant oil producer and a rapidly growing natural gas producer. The country's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal began operation in January 2005.

Egyptian oil production comes from four main areas: the Gulf of Suez (about 50 percent), the Western Desert, the Eastern Desert, and the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt's oil and petrochemical exports reached $ 5.5 bn last year. Projections include plans to increase exports to $ 6.7 bn in 2006 and to more than $ 10 bn by 2010.

Citing a history of investor success in the petrochemical industry, Fehmi has urged the Egyptian private sector to contribute more to the continued development of the oil sector.

Progress is being made throughout the country to privatize State Owned Enterprises.
